I bought this for my laptop so I can hook up two external LCD monitors (using one as the primary and the other as an extension). Well it did not work. The image on both were the same. Why would I want to hook up two external monitors for a short-distance that display the same image? What makes things worse is that the brightness on each monitor is diminished by about half which make it hard to see clearly. I hope Amazon will clarify or change the description of this product and allow me to return it.

True… If you have two monitors of different size, then you cannot get the right display ration on both monitors at the same time. For this I do recommend a switch box…
I have it a 3 stars bc it actually does a great job with the quality of the image, but did not do the trick for me. I am going to use it if I get two monitors the same size…

Setup is HP Laptop VGA output to splitter, port A going to a Dell 18″ monitor port B going to Component video (YPbPr) / VGA To HDMI Converter With Auto Up-scale. To be honest the monitor is showing some faint scanning flicker, but given the issues with trying to find a compatible refresh that goes with the HDMI converter this is likely the problem and not the cable itself. The flicker is negligible on my 18″ monitor at 800×600 resolution, but YMMV, if its even present. I have not tried to bypass this cable to see if it is the problem or if its issues with the video card, refresh rates, etc. Given that, the cable works as advertised, is a stable/robust as other VGA type cables.
